An Archaeologist by day, and Adventurer in my fantasies, I write adventure-, suspense-, and science fiction-romance to let off a bit of creative steam. My stories are a mix of fantastic action and adventure with a touch of steamy romance to tie it all together. But in the end, true love always wins and so do the good guys! That's me, Gwen Thames! Welcome to my website and thanks for checking out my blog! As an introduction, I thought I'd fill you in on how I arrived at this new chapter in my life: Fiction Author. It all started in 2019 with the Chapters Interactive Game App. Truth be told, I had never been a big fan of these romance story apps - too generically cheesy and unbelievably stereotypical for me in general. No offense to those who are fans, as I think if we were all interested in the same thing, we'd have a very boring world! As a single parent, working full time, working on a Master's Degree almost full time, and helping my aging parents, I found my brain overwhelmed with the seriousness of life. So I downloaded Chapters, filling my need for entertainment and mental escape from reality if only for snippets of time. Then I discovered the 'Community Stories' portion of the app, where app-users can write their own TapTales! (These are stories formatted like text messages, and you tap to go to the next line.) I read a few and got to thinking, "Hey, I love writing! I could totally do this!" Granted, I had never written a book nor a fictitious story outside of high school English class (and that was just over 20 years ago!). But, I have been a poet in my days and have written a mountain of research and scholarly papers in which I try to make my subjects interesting and maybe a bit entertaining. The more I thought about what exactly I might want to write about should I take the plunge, the more excited I got to try it out. And unlike school assignments, I could literally write about anything I wanted! Promising myself that this would be completely for fun, and if no one liked my story or even read my story, it wouldn't matter, because it was simply something fun and different to do with my little bit of free-time! I would write stories meaningful to my own life and maybe find a little bit of psychological clarity and even closure on issues I was dealing with. So, tired of the generic romance novels, I embarked upon a Time Travel Romance. Okay, so that's pretty generic! :) Joke on me! An Expedition of Love, started off in my head with a pretty typical storyline, then morphed as I began writing into something completely different than I had intended. I entered it into the Sci-Fi section of Chapter's Community Stories and was floored when it became the #1 Sci-Fi story on the app, having more reads than any of the others in the genre! (Yeah, my ego got a good boost! ha!) When it was finished, I knew I had to do something else and I haven't been able to stop ever since! In total, I had three and a half stories published on Chapters (An Expedition of Love, The Artifact, half of The Time Traveler, and Love is History). Into 2020, Chapters had to make several changes to the app's Rules of Engagement, and several authors were pulling their books and moving on to Wattpad and Inkitt. In September 2020 I followed suit, created my website, and here I am! Of course putting my books on Wattpad and Inkitt meant revising the 'texting' format that Chapters used, which has been great because I've been able to do more thorough editing and revising of my work. Thus far, I have completed An Expedition of Love and am currently reworking The Artifact, posting chapters regularly. The Time Traveler will follow, though a preview is currently posted. Other stories are currently in draft- or note-format waiting for me to finish my first projects so that I can focus on them next. So, I do hope you create an account on Wattpad or Inkitt (or both if you're bold!), and check out my stories. Follow me to stay abreast of the latest happenings and always feel free to shout out a 'hello!' and let me know how you feel about a book, chapter, or characters! While I'm not a Social Media lover, I really do enjoy interacting with my readers through comments in the books! *I do begrudgingly own a Twitter page, but it's pretty sparse and I check it maybe once a month (maybe... Did I say 'maybe?!'). You are welcome to follow me there anyways! The little Twitter bird should be somewhere on top of this page! ;) Well, dear reader, that's my story - at least the part where I began writing stories! Stay tuned for more blog updates and feel free to say 'hey' or let me know if you've had a chance to check out my stories and what you thought! Best wishes, ~Gwen
